How to Shop for a Plus Bikini (Fatkini) & Where to Buy One

I have been receiving a ton of compliments and questions about my high waist bikinis in person and on the 'gram since I shared a photo with one a while back. As mentioned in my bikini post from a few summers ago, high waisted bikinis are very flattering on any body type and can hide our problem areas while accentuating the curves we love most.

This swimsuit was from Forever 21and I wore it in Mexico last year.

Here is what I look for in a fatkini:
  • Adjustable straps
  • Supportive bottoms (goodbye belly jiggle!)
  • Underwire/Cups
  • High waisted bottoms
  • Thick bands for tops, they help hide the back fat

Here are some of my favorite ones that are currently on sale from my fave retailers. Click on the photos to head to the retailers website.

Forever 21+

I
must admit, I am a little biased when it comes to Forever 21+ swimsuits because they are really cute, on trend (feature bold colors, patterns, mesh, cutouts, etc.), and affordable. They do pretty well in terms of support, I enjoy the adjustable bralette styled tops but the bottoms do not have as much tummy control as other more expensive brands.

Swimsuits For All

Swimsuits For All is a great place to shop for swimsuits. They also have very trendy designs, and feature supportive details such as underwires, tummy control, and better support than cheaper brands. They sell their tops by bra size, so you know the top will fit!

Torrid

Torrid is one of my fave stores - they have trendy high quality clothing at decent prices. Their swimsuits are all top rated, since they come with a supportive underwire, a supportive high waist, smoothing ruche designs, and even cute high waist skirt options!

ASOS Curve

ASOS has some really cute affordable mix and match swimwear pieces. The tops have cups, underwire, and adjustable straps so the fit is sure to be great.

Ashley Stewart

In addition to cute cover-ups, Ashley Stewart has some really cute bikinis this season.

Old Navy

Old Navy has a bunch of staples that are great for summer. While perusing for sun dresses and cute shorts, head over to the swimsuit department and check out these gorgeous suits!

Rue 107

I heard about this brand on Instagram and instantly fell in love with their designs. How cute are these swimsuits? Most of the tops can double as crop tops.

All in all, I hope you all have the confidence to slay a fatkini this summer, you deserve it!

Which ones are your fave?

As always, thanks for reading!

  1. You look CUTE! I have tried and tried to find a cute non tankini 2 piece but have been unsuccessful! Everything is good from the front and then I turn around and its attack of the back FAT! The bottoms are always rolling down trying to compete with my body. Its just horrible. And don't let me get on the need for more support for the girls. I have seriously been thinking about starting a swim suit line for top heavy ladies over size D. Your suites look like they are really supporting to girls. I may have to look into them! Thanks for these recommendations.

    1. Thank you! Listen girl, back fat is just one of those things that you have to just say "so what" to. Finding tops with support is a hard task, it is important to find them with cups, an underwire, and thick straps/band. You should totally start a line!!!

  3. These are really cute options. I love Old Navy and Target for swimsuits. I also try to catch off season sales at some department stores.

  4. I like the Ashley Steward ones. I'm not a fan of the term fatkini but I do think that a high waisted bikini bottom is great at complimenting the midsection while still covering up.

    1. I agree, but the hashtag fatkini is blowing up with all kinds of awesome ladies showing off their swimsuits so I wanted to include it.
