Hair Archives: My Natural Hair Staples - October 2012

This list is basically a list of my staple products, products that I have used time and time again, and LOVE.

BUT to begin, please do not purchase these products because they are on my natural hair staples list. No head of hair is the same (although it may appear to be the same texture, curl pattern, etc). I encourage you to do some research on a product before you buy it, watch youtube videos, read reviews, see how other people use and like the products before you purchase anything.

It's been a while since I shared my list, and people have been asking what I use, SO enjoy! =)

My hair is generally kinky-curly, porous, thick, dry hair. I combat dryness with thick moisturizers and seal with heavy oils/butters. It's just what works best for me.

Shampoo
Shea Moisture Organic Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo - (Click here for Youtube review) This shampoo made my HG list because I've used this shampoo for over a year and no matter what other product I try this shampoo has been my favorite. It is gentle yet lathers well and it makes my hair feel clean without stripping all of the moisture.

Shea Moisture ORGANIC Coconut & Hibicus Curl & Shine Shampoo - I purchased this product over the summertime when they were on sale (the store ran out of the M.R. shampoo). I ended up falling in love with it. Same great results as the Shea Butter shampoo but with an even better smell.

Conditioners/Deep Conditioners
Suave Professionals Conditioner, Moisturizing Almond and Shea Butter - This conditioner is thick and creamy, which my hair loves. I have even mixed it with olive oil and left it on for an hour or two to deep condition. PLUS it's affordable
TRESemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner - (I used it in a tutorial, click here) This conditioner is light, yet has a great slip and this one is affordable too!

Aubrey Organics - Honeysuckle Rose Conditioner - (Click here for a Youtube review) My hair absolutely LOVES this stuff, but the smell reminds me of sunscreen. This product is great as a deep conditioner, but I sometimes use it as a regular conditioner as well.

Moisturizers
Giovanni Direct Leave-In Conditioner - This is a thick leave-in conditioner. It works well under a lot of sealants/styling products, and can also be used to define my coils and curls for wash and go's. I generally only use this on wet hair.

Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Milk - This is a light leave-in which also works great underneath other products. This product smells great, and can be used to refresh twist outs or re-moisturize dry hair.

Reve Essentials Hair & Body Moisturizer - I got the strawberry scent so it smells SOOO good! I love to use it on wet and dry hair, mostly to twist or braid. It can also be used as a lotion, rinse out conditioner, deep conditioner, etc. (I use it along with their moisturizing creme).

Sealants
Oils - I use various oils such as Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, Olive, Avocado, Sweet Almond, Jamaican Black Castor Oil, to seal my hair and in my shea butter mixes.

Shea Butter - I LOVE shea butter, I mix it with oils and use it to twist/braid my hair. Since it is so thick, I usually use it on wet hair.

Oyin Handmade Sugar Berries Pomade - I just purchased this product this summer, and it smells SOOO good I had to add it to this list. I use it to smooth down my edges and seal my ends.


Stylers
Honey Chile Hair Love LushCurl Custard - I've only been using this product for a few months but I LOVE the definition that it gives me. I use it on wet hair for twist outs, but the curls are so great I am tempted to do a wash & go with it.

Reve Essentials Hair & Body Moisturizing Creme - This is a great creme, like a heavy leave-in. It is packed with tons of oils and smells great (I have the birthday cake scent). I use it on wet hair to twist along with the Moisturizer, and to re-twist my hair.


Refreshers - Light Leave-In Sprays
Oyin Handmade Juices & Berries - Not only does it smell AMAZING but it is light enough to use daily without a ton of build up. I use this to moisturize my dry hair or to refresh an old twist/braid out.

Well that's it! I have generally been keeping my product junkie urges to a minimum, so I stick to the same basic product list. I tend to stray every now and again, but this is what I mostly use. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to leave them below!
